The Leadership Pipeline

Why do you need a leadership pipeline?

The leadership pipeline is one of the most critical pieces of the organizational culture with the least amount of attention typically given to it. You need a leadership pipeline if you want to develop anything beyond yourself. This applies to the for profit and non-profit sectors.

The leadership pipeline will allow you to vet potential candidates for future positions, develop talent, offer longer term stability to a department, help with organizational alignment over time, enhance employee engagement, create an atmosphere for adaptability and innovation, and foster organic diversity and inclusion.

How do you develop a leadership pipeline?

Essentially, people are recruited and then developed and then deployed. If you cannot recruit people then you cannot develop them, because there is nobody to develop. In the next 3 to 6 months, we hope to implement this process of leadership recruiting development. See below for a more specific method. One key thing to remember is to delay talking to people about whether or not they are interested in serving means potential set back to the whole process.

  1. Recruiting (from congregation)
    1. Personal invite
    2. Follow up (testing)
  2. Training
    1. Meetings/testimony sharing
    2. On the job training
  3. Mobilize (out to the world)
    1. Cast vision
    2. Help them find their calling
